Ohio River Barge Racer Marathon Charity Swim
September 13th, 6am, Newburgh Old Lock and Dam

On September 13th at 6am a several local swimmers and triathletes will be participating in a swim for charity
which takes place in the Ohio River. The swim originates at the Newburgh Old Lock and Dam
and will ultimately end at the Henderson Riverfront boat ramp. The total distance is
exactly 26.2 miles – exactly the length of a marathon.

Each swimmer is being sponsored by one or more individuals and all proceeds are being split
between two charities. It Takes a Village Canine Rescue of Evansville and Habitat for Humanity
of Henderson.

More details can be found at bargeracers.com and donations can be pledged there as well.
Additionally, several pictures of past river swims can be viewed by searching “Ohio River
Barge Racers” on facebook.

While most of the swimmers plan to only swim a portion of the event, two swimmers, Jeff Williams
and Patty Winck hope to be able to complete the entire 26.2 mile distance. They will be
supported by kayakers and a motorized boat to help ensure safety. Jeff estimates that it
will take anywhere between 10 and 14 hours to complete the distance depending on river conditions.
